Age Estimation from Ossification of the Medial Clavicular Epiphysis by Computed Tomography International Journal of Morphology
El Morsi,Doaa A.; Abo El-Atta,Hend M; ElMaadawy,Merit; Tawfik,Ahmed M; Batouty,Nihal M.
The current study intended to evaluate the accuracy of age estimation from the development of the medial clavicular epiphysis (sternal end of the clavicle) in Egyptian population using computed tomography (CT) and to develop a discriminant formula that can be used in Egyptians. The study was conducted on 142 subjects (84 males and 58 females) after taken informed consent. They were subjected to multi-slice CT on the medial end of clavicles of both sides. The results revealed that the age of non - union was seen at 817 years; incomplete union at 1520 years and complete union was seen at 20 years. It is concluded that the ossification of medial clavicular end could be used for age estimation. Also CT is a good visualization tool to be used. Regression...

Estimation of Stature and Age from Head Dimensions in Indian Population International Journal of Morphology
Singh,Rajani.
Body segments exhibit consistent ratios with stature, age, gender and race. Thus prediction of stature from cranial remains is vital in establishing the identity of an unknown individual in natural calamities and archaeological exploration where entire body skeleton is not available. Little is known about the cranial dimensions in Indian population. Hence the study was carried out to predict stature, age and sex for solving medico-legal problems, anthropological complexities and archaeological investigations. Undergraduate students in the age group of 17-26 years of CSM Medical University, UP, India were selected as subjects because of easy access. Cranial dimensions of the subjects were measured by spreading calliper and Todd' head spanner. Heights of...

Malignant tumor affects the developmental pattern of feeding larvae of Chrysomya albiceps (Wiedemann) and Chrysomya putoria (Wiedemann) (Diptera: Calliphoridae) Neotropical Entomology
Carvalho,Lucila M.L. de; Palhares,Fortunato A.B.; Linhares,Arício X..
Larvae of Chrysomya albiceps (Wiedemann) and Chrysomya putoria (Wiedemann) were reared on liver tissues from a rabbit that had a malignant tumor in the thoracic cavity. Larval rearing of both blowfly species was conducted at ambient temperature. Larvae that fed on tissues from the rabbit with the tumor developed at significantly faster rates than those feeding on tissues from the control animal.

Postmortem interval estimation based on Chrysomya albiceps (Diptera, Calliphoridae) in a forensic case in the Andean Amazon, Caquetá, Colombia Acta Amazonica
RAMOS-PASTRANA,Yardany; WOLFF,Marta.
ABSTRACT This is the first application of forensic entomology in a case involving a human corpse found in the urban area of the Municipality of Florencia, Caquetá, Colombia, in the Piedemont of the Colombian Amazon. Three days after removing the body from the scene, pupae and puparia were collected and identified as Chrysomya albiceps (Wiedemann, 1819) (Diptera, Calliphoridae). The postmortem interval was estimated on the basis of previously published data and verified through accumulated degree hours (ADH) and intrapuparial development. The estimated minimum postmortem interval was of 229 hours (9.5 days).

Validation of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Forensic Soils Investigation in Brazil Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Testoni,Samara Alves; Melo,Vander Freitas; Dawson,Lorna Anne; Salvador,Fábio Augusto da Silva; Kunii,Paulo Akira.
ABSTRACT Soil traces are useful as forensic evidence due to their potential to transfer and adhere to different types of surfaces on a range of objects or persons. Several works have been developed in forensic soils, under different analytical approaches. However, in Brazil, only the researches from the Group of the Federal University of Paraná have developed works with soils under a forensic approach. Focus has been given on the sequential chemical analyses and mineralogical techniques once they presented a large potential to discriminate soil samples, even that originated from the same bedrock. In this way, this work aimed to test a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for forensic soil sampling and an analytical protocol in Brazil between the academy and...
